Map Your Neighborhood Training

By Reservation Only - Call (310) 802-5183 to RSVP

Manhattan Beach Police Department Neighborhood Watch program, in partnership with the Manhattan Beach Fire Department, offers a “Map Your Neighborhood (MYN)” course to those who are interested in strengthening disaster readiness among neighbors on their neighborhood block. This specialized training helps to prepare residents to care for themselves and their neighborhoods in the event of a disaster, and is recommended by the Manhattan Beach Neighborhood Watch.

The reality of a major disaster is that emergency responders will not be available or accessible right away. Neighborhoods may need to respond to an array of situations including fires, injuries, and natural gas leaks.   Through Map Your Neighborhood, residents learn 9 Steps to Take Immediately Following a Disaster to secure one’s home and to protect one’s neighborhood. It is hard to think clearly following a disaster, and these steps help residents to quickly and confidently take actions that can minimize damage and protect lives. The program encourages working together as a team to evaluate one’s neighborhood during the first hour following a disaster and take the necessary actions.

Join the hundreds of residents who have participated in the Map Your Neighborhood Program and help your neighborhood to be more prepared to respond to a disaster.

The Map Your Neighborhood (MYN) course will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM in the Police/Fire Community Room (420 15th Street, Manhattan Beach). Participants must RSVP to the Neighborhood Watch Office at (310) 802-5183 by Tuesday, June 24th at 12:00 PM. The cost of the training is free.
